The Company of Psychosocial Research and Intervention will participate in the 7th edition of the Erasmus Days celebration, from 9 to 14 October 2023. This year’s events are dedicated to the European Year of Skills.

The organization’s Mental Health Units of Arta “Aiolos” anf Konitsa “Nostos” will host a two hour event at October the 10th (World Mental Health Day) at 12:00 am to promote the Projects results.

The event will include a short presentation of the project “RECovery of Adults living with Depression and psychosis in Europe” and a workshop to showcase to selected participants the Blended Training Material which was created as part of the projects second Intellectual Output.

Tatjana Katkic Stanic on behalf of Croatian Ministry of Social Policy gives a welcome speach at the RECADE multiplier event in Zagreb

The University Psychiatric Hospital Vrapče organized a conference for all stakeholders involved in treatment and care for people with mental health problems upon the completion of the our project. The conference, titled “Treatment and care for persons diagnosed with psychosis and depression in the therapeutic culture of recovery” was the Multiplier Event of the project, and aimed to present the principles of recovery for building a therapeutic culture of recovery.

The conference invited all stakeholders in the field of mental health to attend and highlighted the international and nationally accepted standard for organizing mental health services and encouraging the recovery process. More than 120 participants attended the event.

The preferred treatment outcome for people with mental health problems, particularly those diagnosed with psychosis, was recovery, which was stigmatized as impossible by many, negatively impacting their treatment and social inclusion.

The civil society institutions and organizations’ stakeholders were involved during all stages, thanks to an effective plan of communication and an inclusive approach and culture for people living with psychosis or depression and their caregivers.

The debate and the results that emerged during the 2 days Multiplier event included the city of Copenhagen in the planning and contributed to the joint project production of a validating international document of the Intellectual Outputs that was written within the partnership.

During the three-day meeting, the Project Team discussed ways to support the Principles of Recovery. On the first day, all partners met at the European Parliament in Greece to discuss the program and cooperation so far. The coordinating partner (EPSEP) provided a report on the work that has been implemented to date, including the drafting of themes for the group interview and conducting interviews and focus group meetings with people living with depression or psychosis and their carers from each country. The lead partner produced a draft analysis and report of the interviews, and Italy produced the final version of the report and web-based materials.

On the second day, the partners had their meeting at the Day Centre of our associated partner, the Panhellenic Association for Psychosocial Health, Rehabilitation and Vocational Reintegration – PEPSAEE, where they received a tour and listened to a speech by Mrs. Lara Grosso Sategna from the European Psychiatric Association on mental health professionals in Europe.

They also visited the permanent exhibition of the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation and held a networking dinner at the museum’s restaurant.

The final day of the meeting took place at the Day Centre for Psychological Support of People Suffering from Cancer of https://ekpse.gr/, where the partners listened to speeches from a psychologist and a consultant psychiatrist, and discussed housing as part of the recovery in mental health. The meeting concluded with a discussion of recent advances in terms of stigma and the need for prevention programs.

ersion of “The Blended Training Material on Recovery for Adults with Depression or Psychosis”.

During a study visit to UPH Vrapče’s Museum of Psychiatry, the progress in psychiatric practice and the need to further implement the concept of Recovery was highlighted. In the field of psychiatry, recovery has been historically used to refer to the end of a particular experience or episode of illness. However, the broader concept of “recovery” as a general philosophy and model was popularized first in regard to recovery from substance abuse/drug addiction, such as within twelve-step programs.

Application of recovery models to psychiatric disorders like depression or psychosis is a relatively recent development. The concept of recovery can be traced back to as early as 1840 when John Perceval, son of one of Britain’s prime ministers, wrote about his personal recovery from the psychosis he experienced from 1830 until 1832, despite the “treatment” he received from doctors.

The development of the recovery concept in the mental health field was mainly driven by the consumer movement, a grassroots self-help and advocacy initiative, particularly within the United States during the late 1980s and early 1990s. From the early 1990s, the professional literature, starting with the psychiatric rehabilitation movement in particular, began to incorporate the concept in the United States, followed by New Zealand and more recently across nearly all countries. The Zagreb short-term joint staff training event also covered topics like Protection of Mental Health as a Public Health Priority, Self-stigma Prevention Program, and Media Guidelines.
